Typical Sunset

Shtuff

The theatre, looking at the officer's seating. The elisted men sit in the back. The anchor on the ceiling is wood... I think.

The room with the giant giant generator. It takes something like 8000 gallons of oil. They don't use it anymore since it's due for an oil change and that would cost a ton.

The Half Breed

This guy is part Laysan part Black-footed Albatross.

Let's go Fly a Kite

The kite the Portlanders gave me for Christmahaunakwanzika in action!

MERRY CHRISTMAHAUNAKWANZICA!!!

Me enjoying the sunset.

Tonight's sunset.

Off to deliver gas to our would be snorkling boat.

So today was rather a good holiday for me. Matt, Ben and I went snorkeling along the shore while we waited for the boat to return with the first load of snorkelers. We saw two octopus, many Moray eels, two puffer fish, one lobster and many various fishes and invertebrates. After we got back to the boat house we found out the boat we were waiting for ran out of gas and we launched a delta force rescue mission. On this delta force rescue mission we saw a small shark (Galapagos or Grey), a large pod of spinner dolphins and a bunch of Manta Rays in the harbor. I played volleyball and horse shoes after lupper with a bunch of the guys and Mel, then played tennis with Matt and Marc until sunset.

Life is pretty rough here.

Hangouts

Home sweet home.

Captain Brooks.

My favorite dining area at the Clipper house.

The Clipper House.

Path to Captain Brooks, showing Bravo and Charlie barracks.

Volleyball arena.

Tennis court... rain was threatening to come so I didn't get a decent shot.

More birds!

White Tern that either wants to suck my blood or is just curious.

I love this guys blue bill, I never noticed how blue it was until I got a good look at this lovely specimen.

I love the tree these guys are under, unfortunately none of the pictures I took of it are worth posting.

A lovely seep with some Laysan Ducks.

Old Cable Buildings

The old cable buildings. I'll try and get a better picture later.

This Petrel was caught in the fencing that I'm assuming is there to keep birds and people out of these buildings, however the fencing came down with a chunk of the building and this little guy got stuck. It was nice being able to handle one and get a good look at it, but not really under these cercumstances. Willy helped me cut this guy loose. It had a few cuts on it's wings but other than that it seemed ok.

Eastern Island

A big fatty monk seal, this guy was impressive compared to the rest of the ones I've seen.

A rather large turtle by the boat.

I love Frigatebirds. Unfortunately this is a crappy picture because it is out of focus which really irks me.

Sunrise and Curlew

A very curious Bristle-thighed Curlew. This is the closest I've gotten to one yet.

This morning's sunrise. One of the most beautiful sunrises I've ever seen. I didn't have time to get out to the Piers to get a propper picture of it unfortunately.

The old Command Center/Power Plant.

I love this door.

More wonderfull door.

Misc.

White Tern checking out Matt (upper left from his head). I've had as many as seven following me and hovering near my head at the same time, they are a lot of fun.

Checking our shoes for seeds before taking the boat back to Sand Island.

Bonin Petrel Invasion

These guys come in at night by the thousands.
